Examples of Our Support:
Our team has many years of experience supporting organizations with:
- Strengthening Partnerships: A state health department tobacco control team came to us knowing partnerships were key to reaching communities most affected by tobacco, but unsure about how to put their ideas into practice.
-
- The results: Our coaching and easy‑to‑use tools helped them identify the right partners, clarify their approach, and rebuild relationships. One participant shared that the Hub’s support helped them “establish new partnerships… and really just be intentional in the approach.” The team left with stronger connections and more confidence to move forward.
-
- Embedding Community Data, Input and Engagement in Strategic Plans: Several groups have received coaching and curated resources to revisit and strengthen their strategic plans.
-
- The results: The results: After training, one tobacco control coalition said it “provided an opportunity…to embed health equity throughout each of the goals, objectives, and strategies.” These conversations helped staff, from new hires to seasoned leads, in building shared understanding and applying a more community‑informed approach in their work.
-
- Finding Clarity in Challenging Times: With staffing turnover and competing demands, teams have come to us stretched thin and needing space to regroup. Our coaching creates that pause, helping you reflect, plan, and realign.
-
- The results: Past coaching participants described feeling “invigorated…expanded in our collaboration,” and noted that Emory’s involvement added “credibility” and a better internal understanding of how to engage with populations experiencing tobacco‑related disparities.
- One state health department reported stronger internal communication, clearer next steps, and renewed momentum.

More About the CA Hub
The SelfMade Health Network Community Approaches Training and Technical Assistance Hub is run by Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance at Emory University.
To learn more about our ongoing efforts as a CDC-funded National Network and the support available, you can watch an informational webinar and download our one-pager.
SelfMade Health Network (SMHN) is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) consortium of national organizations to advance the prevention of commercial tobacco use and cancer in populations experiencing tobacco- and cancer-related health disparities. The consortium is jointly funded by CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health and Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. With a specific focus on populations with low socio-economic characteristics, the work of SMHN is intended to enhance the capacity, quality and performance of state tobacco prevention and cancer control programs, data and information systems, practice and services, partnerships, and resources to advance best and promising practices to respond to unique needs of this population.
